Measure the table before choosing chairs

Measure from the table edge to the nearest wall, cabinet or walkway. The chair needs room to pull out, and people need space to pass behind it. High-traffic dining areas generally need more clearance than a chair beside a wall that is used occasionally.

Armless chairs usually fit more easily around compact tables.
Armchairs can work well at table ends if the arms clear the tabletop.
